Adriaan E. Waiboer graduated from the Rijksuniversiteit Leiden in 1997 and completed an MA degree at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. At the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, Waiboer received another MA degree in 1998 and a PhD in 2004, having defended his dissertation Gabriel Metsu (1629–1667): Life and Work. Waiboer was Curator of Northern European Art at the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin, from 2004 until 2016, and Head Curator, from 2016 until 2019. He organised a number of exhibitions, among them Northern Nocturnes: Nightscapes in the Age of Rembrandt (2005) and Vermeer, Fabritius & De Hooch: Three Masterpieces from Delft (2009).
