Piet Bakker is a researcher and lecturer at the University of Amsterdam. He received his PhD in 2008 with a dissertation on Frisian Painters and the Art Market in the Dutch Golden Age. Bakker worked as an (archival) researcher in several projects, initiated by the Leiden Collection New York, the Delft University of Technology and the Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium. He is the author of multiple publications on topics related to the art market, painter communities, painter networks and socio-economic institutions like the Guild of St Luke.
