Vadim Sadkov on Rembrandt and The Leiden Collection
Until 13 January 2019, the Hermitage will host the exhibition “The Age of Rembrandt and Vermeer: Masterpieces of The Leiden Collection,” presenting Dutch Golden Age works from the private collection of the Kaplan family based in the United States. Earlier this year, the Collection was on display at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. The show’s opening in Moscow coincided with the publication of a book by the art historian, professor, and head of the Pushkin’s European and American Art Department, Vadim Sadkov – “The Earliest Rembrandt. Discovery of the Five Senses series of paintings,” in which he tells the history of certain paintings from this Collection. With Dr. Sadkov’s kind permission, Art and Houses here reproduces two sections from the book. Russian with English translation.
